DAY 2 – Bath
Today you will meet with your private guide for sightseeing in Bath to include a visit to the Bath Assembly Rooms, the Holbourne Museum of Art & No 1 Royal Crescent Museum. At the heart of the Holburne Museum is the collection of Sir William Holburne (1793-1874), fifth baronet of Menstrie. William seemed destined for a naval career but, following the death of his elder brother Francis, he inherited the family title and a modest fortune. He left the navy and embarked on an eighteen-month Grand Tour of Europe, visiting Italy, the Alps and the Netherlands. This sparked a lifelong interest in art and his enthusiasm for collecting. He particularly loved bronze sculptures, silver, porcelain and Dutch landscapes. The Holbourne Museum of Art acts as the exterior of Lady Danbury’s House also. No. 1 Royal Crescent, a museum in Bath, features in many scenes depicting the front doors or the Featherington Residence. Standing out on the city skyline are the towers of Bath Abbey. This historic building was founded in the 7th century, has been transformed and renovated over the centuries and now boasts an impressive gothic interior.
